The President of the Arab International Center for Strategic Research and Studies, Dr. Walaa Battat, met with His Excellency the Minister of Justice, Dr. Sharhabeel Al-Zaim, to discuss the legal process for the international campaign “Their Names are Not Numbers,” which is scheduled to be launched at the end of this April, with the aim of documenting the names of the children who were martyred during the war on Gaza, and consolidating them in human memory as a witness to one of the most painful human tragedies in the modern era.

Dr. Walaa Battat confirmed, during the meeting, that the campaign represents a humanitarian and legal initiative that seeks to recover the names of children whom the war machine tried to turn into mere numbers in statistics, stressing that documenting their names and preserving their stories constitutes a moral and legal duty, and establishes a documentation base that can be relied upon in the paths of justice and international accountability in the future, and protects collective memory from attempts to obliterate and forget.
For his part, His Excellency the Minister of Justice, Dr. Sharhabeel Al-Zaim, appreciated the launch of the campaign, stressing that it constitutes an important step in documenting crimes and violations that targeted children, contributes to preserving the rights of victims, and strengthening legal efforts aimed at prosecuting the perpetrators of violations in accordance with the provisions of international law and international humanitarian law.
The two sides stressed that documenting the names of children and the violations they were subjected to is not limited to being a documentary work, but rather represents a national, humanitarian and legal responsibility, and a message directed to the global conscience that every child has a name, identity, life and story, and that targeting children constitutes a blatant violation of international law and human values.
They stressed the need to integrate media, legal and human rights efforts to ensure the preservation of evidence and facts, convey the truth to the international community, and strengthen paths of accountability and non-impunity, ensuring that the names of children remain present in human memory, as a permanent witness to childhood suffering and the victims’ right to justice and fairness.
